Founded in 2007, Tortuga Surf Camp began as a dream to share the beauty of Costa Rica’s waves with the world. What started as a small, local surf camp has grown into a destination where surfers of all levels come to learn, grow, and connect with the ocean.
Over the years, Tortuga Surf Camp has become more than just a place to catch waves—it's a place to create lasting memories, discover new passions, and experience the true essence of Costa Rican surf culture. Meet Michael Gutierrez, the founder and camp director of Tortuga Surf Camp. Michael is not only the 2023 National Long-Distance Champion but also a highly skilled and passionate waterman. His impressive credentials include being an Apnea Certified Trainer and an ISA-certified longboarder and surf instructor.
Michael’s journey in the world of surfing is a testament to his dedication and love for the ocean. With years of experience under his belt, he has become a respected figure in the surf community, known for his expertise and commitment to sharing the joy of surfing and paddle boarding with others. Whether he's guiding beginners through their first waves or training athletes for competition, Michael brings unparalleled knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm to every session. His leadership at Tortuga Surf Camp ensures that every guest experiences the thrill of surfing while embracing the true spirit of Costa Rica.

At Tortuga Surf Camp, you'll be welcomed not only by our expert team but also by two special members of our family: Osa and Ambar.
Osa, the playful blond, is full of energy and loves to make new friends. She's always ready for an adventure, whether it's a paddle boarding session or just running along the beach.Ambar, the spirited black dog with a big personality, brings a bit of character to the camp. She's loyal, smart, and always up for a challenge, adding a unique touch to our surf camp experience.
Together, Osa and Ambar embody the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that makes Tortuga Surf Camp feel like home.
